Belarusians Abroad

Estonia - 15th anniversary of the Belarusian-Estonian Association (BEZ)

On the occasion of this anniversary Belarusians of Estonia staged in March a Week of Belarusian Culture.

Towns of northeastern Estonia saw concerts by the song and dance ensemble Paazierje, from Pastavy in Belarus. The library in Ahtmes had an exhibition of Belarusian books and held an evening of Belarusian poetry. In Kohtla-Järve a coffeeshop offered Belarusian dishes. The city hall in Jöhvi exhibited the works of the Belarusian craftsmen from the Pastavy House of Handicrafts and of the local Belarusian artists. The local cable TV showed eleven films about Belarus' nature and history.

Thanks to the Association's work in the past 15 years the Belarusian identity, culture and language are well-known and respected in the multi-ethnic environment of their region.
