USA: Opening of the Center for Belarusian Studies The Center for Belarusian Studies at Southwestern College held its grand opening in Wichita, Kansas on April 19, 2008. Dignitaries attending the ceremony included Stanislau Shushkevich, first president of independent Belarus, and Ivonka Survilla, president of the Belarus Democratic Republic in Exile. Guests from New York, New Jersey, California, and Kansas gathered to make the day long event a success. Activities for the grand opening included displays of Belarusian art, literature, and music. |
